Lord of the Rings trilogy, First editions, sell for £2,000

First editions of the trilogy, ‘The Lord of the Rings’ by J.R.R Tolkien, published by George Allen and Unwin were recently offered at auction and realised a hammer price of £2,000. 'Of course, if Tolkein had signed them, we might have added £10000 to the sale price!' commented RIchard Bush, Head of Books and Manuscripts.
Published in 1954, the books were presented in dust jackets in good condition.
Tolkien wrote the trilogy between 1937-1949. The Lord of the Rings is one of the best-selling books ever written. Rare copies of signed, first editions of the Lord of the Rings can reach up to £280,000.
