Dame Laura Knight (1877 - 1970), a series of letters and cards

Busby are pleased to be offering a series of cards and letters as well as a number of paintings by Dame Laura Knight RA in the upcoming Fine Art & Antiques sale on Thursday 17th September 2026 from 10am.
The cards and letters were written to her friends, the Lamorna based artists Charles and Ella Naper ranging from 1931 - 1969. Some include illustrations of angels and ballerinas on paper headed with Knight’s longterm home at 16 Langford Place, St John’s Wood.
The artworks and letters have been offered to Busby from a single owner who lived near Laura Knight in North London.
The letters discuss topics such as ‘the difficulty in finding suitable frames to each of the works; a surprise television appearance; Multiple apologies for late replies; memories of 'happy days when we bathed in the rock pools' etc.
A number of paintings including Lot 490 'Portrait of a lady in red belt', possibly Ella Naper herself.
Viewings for the sale will be taking place on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th September from 10am to 5pm, with the sale starting at 10am on Thursday 17th September.
