Dr Martin Postle writes:This does appear to be a potential early Reynolds portrait of c.1743-4, probably no later...it is somewhat reminiscent of Walter Kendall, and also Reginald Pole and Sir William Morice (Mannings pls. 2 & 16). It is likely to be a Devon/Cornish sitter. We are grateful to Dr Martin Postle for his assistance with the catalogue entry.
